A Nikon Picture Control file (NCP or NP3) is a binary profile that defines how a Nikon camera processes JPEG and video output. Parameters include sharpening, contrast, brightness, saturation, hue, and a custom tone curve. These files can be loaded into compatible Nikon cameras via a memory card.

What is the difference between NCP and NP3 formats?

NCP is the legacy Picture Control format supported by Nikon DSLR cameras such as the D90, D7000 series, D600, D750, D800, D810, and D850. NP3 is the newer format used by Nikon Z-series mirrorless cameras and the D6 and D780. NP3 adds Clarity, Mid-range Sharpening, extended parameter ranges, and 0.25-step increments.
